In December 2021, I deposited €2,000 on LendSecured. Since then, three and a half years have passed, during which a lot has happened.
The platform rebranded to LANDE, received the European crowdfunding license, and introduced both new markets and new features.
Over the years, not only has LANDE evolved into a compelling alternative in the agricultural sector, but my personal P2P portfolio on the platform has also grown to over €7,000.
Was it worth it? Let’s take a look at the numbers!
My LANDE portfolio
Over time, I deposited a total of €7,000 on LANDE, while withdrawing €1,651.45. My earned income from interest payments and cashback bonuses amounts to €1,670.03.
Looking at the overall portfolio performance, I achieved a total return of 9.88% over the past 42 months. A few interesting insights emerge when analysing the annual performance.
2022 was the best year so far, with a return of 11.4%. In addition to strong portfolio quality and reliable borrower repayments, the return was also boosted by initial cashback rewards and, on average, higher interest rates.
In contrast, 2023 marked a setback, with a return of just 8.89% - my worst annual performance on LANDE to date. Most of the defaulted loans during that period were collateralized with harvests, which, in hindsight, proved to be a bad decision.
LANDE reached a similar conclusion and subsequently adjusted its strategy, shifting its focus predominantly to farmland and machinery as primary collateral. These changes, along with tighter risk policies, have led to only a single loan entering the recovery stage over the past 18 months.
As a result, my returns in 2024 (10.14%) and 2025 (10.33%) have picked up again, returning to the double-digit range.
My strategy moving forward
Based on my experience with LANDE so far, I focus primarily on Latvian loans that are backed by either land or machinery, with loan terms of up to 24 months and a maximum LTV of 60%. For cash flow reasons, I have excluded full bullet loans from my Auto Invest settings.
Given the decent portfolio quality in Lithuania, I have recently started to expand my geographical focus as well. Typically, I wait at least 12 months after a new market launch to ensure a stable portfolio quality.
My long-term goal on LANDE is to cultivate a five-digit portfolio that consistently delivers double-digit returns. To achieve this, maintaining solid portfolio quality will be just as important as showing visible progress on recovering defaulted projects.
Looking beyond the numbers, I am confident that LANDE will continue to strengthen its position in the agricultural niche. The regulatory framework is in place, the platform demonstrates a solid approach to transparency and communication, and the ability for investors to benefit from genuine diversification outside of traditional consumer loans are all compelling reasons to stick with LANDE for the long term.
